Bill Bravo leads SkillsUSA competition

Allentown—On Wednesday, February 1, Bill Bravo, graphic designer at Klunk & Millan, served as event manager for the 2006 Pennsylvania District 11 SkillsUSA Championships Advertising Design competition. This was the third year in a row Bill volunteered to run the event.

As part of his SkillsUSA responsibilities, Bill created a competitive scenario for participants involving the creation of a logo and advertising for a hypothetical new company. The competitors, finalists from three area vocational high schools, worked on the problem using hand-drawn sketches in conjunction with computer-based design. Bill was also responsible for recruiting local advertising professionals to serve as judges for the event.

The final results for the District 11 SkillsUSA Advertising Design competition were: First Place, Caitlin Beach, Lehigh Career & Technical Institute; Second Place, Vincent Yandolinom, Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School; and Third Place, Craig Driscoll, Upper Bucks County Area Vocational Technical School. Caitlin will go on to represent District 11 at the SkillsUSA State Conference from March 13 to 15.

The annual SkillsUSA Championships competition provides a unique opportunity for Lehigh Valley vocational high school students to demonstrate their skills to the industry representatives who facilitate and judge the event. This year’s Advertising Design competition was held at the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute and was one of 26 District 11 competitions held at various satellite locations.
